The story of iLuvQuran starts with a family who were searching for a way to replicate the education received by our pious predecessors.
The sahabahs of Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.) and Muslim scholars used to awe the world with their knowledge and character.
Their search for knowledge was wholesome, their motivation was Allah, and their foundation was the memorization and learning of the Qur’an. They also held an incredible love of the Qur’an, which was expressed by reading, understanding, memorizing, implementing, and sharing it with others around them.
In Malaysia, our interaction with the Quran usually only covers two aspects: learning to read the Qur’an, and then reading it from cover to cover at least once in our lifetime. Yes, learning to read the Qur’an is definitely necessary, but it is only the beginning. The Qur’an is a love letter from Allah – it is “hudanlilmuttaqin”, or guidance for the God-fearing. Yet, most of us fail to keep the Qur’an in our hearts and minds and to use it as a roadmap to success.
Realizing these points, the founders of iLuvQuran wanted their children to memorize Quran from an early age. However, they were unable to find a Qur’anic school that would accept their son. Alhamdulillah, at three years old their son, Umar, had already memorized ten surahs from Juz 30. They were doing it on their own while working full-time in a multinational company. Commuting and other mundane matters made it very challenging to continue teaching their son the Qur’an. They realized the need for a proper system to help Umar memorize the Qur’an well.
After two years in Kuala Lumpur, the family decided to take a short break and applied for scholarships to complete an MBA in University College Dublin. During the year abroad, they sent Umar to the Muslim National School and the Quranic School at Clonskeagh Mosque. Alhamdulillah, in less than a year he was able to memorize 80% of juz 30.
After coming back to Malaysia, they wanted their children to be able to continue this Quranic journey. Since they couldn’t find an institution that could cater to their needs, they decided to create iLuvQuran to help other families who were searching for a place that would help their children love and memorize Qur’an.
Yes, this is a personal story, but these challenges are something that many parents face. We want our children to get the best Qur’anic education that helps them learn the Qur’an by heart, and with heart. With iLuvQuran, we hope to encourage more people to love and memorize the Qur’an regardless of age or background.
